Withholding of Assent: Senate rescinds its earlier decisions Today in the red chamber, according to the motion raised on Withholding of Assent by the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawal, the Senate unanimously rescinds its earlier decisions on President C-in-C withholding of his assent on bills pursuant to section 58(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)
Nassnews recalls that the President C-in-C had signified withholding of his assent on the following Bills pursuant to section 58(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)
1. Avoidance of Double Taxation between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of South Korea
2. Institute of Credit Administration of Nigeria Bill 2019
3. Fisheries Institute of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2019
The Senate notes that the President made some observations which are relevant to the implementation of the Bills When assented to; Relying on Orders 53(6) and 88(b) of the Senate Standing Orders,
Senate accordingly resolves to rescind its earlier decisions on the affected Clauses of the Bills at the Committee of the Whole for consideration and passage without amendment.
