Mass Jubilation as Dr. Chris Okobah, Former PDP Stalwart, Leads Over 2,000 Supporters to APC in Delta State
There was wild jubilation over the weekend as Dr. Chris Okobah, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with over 2,000 supporters. The well-attended event took place at Ward 2, Onicha-Ugbo, in the Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Also joining the APC at the ceremony was Mr. Justus Elue, a former treasurer of the PDP in the area. The high-profile defection was witnessed by prominent APC leaders, including Ogbueshi Sualeze Eluaka, the APC Oshimili South House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 general elections, alongside other party stalwarts.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Okobah explained that his decision to join the APC was driven by his commitment to aligning with the party’s vision of development and progress for Onicha-Ugbo. He emphasized the need to address youth unemployment and expressed optimism that the ruling APC at the national level would soon bring unprecedented democratic dividends to the community.
“This is a new dawn for Onicha-Ugbo. The interests of our people will now be prioritized at the highest level,” Dr. Okobah declared. He urged the people of Onicha-Ugbo to unite and join the APC in large numbers to take advantage of economic empowerment opportunities, particularly those facilitated by Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly.
Welcoming the new members, the Aniocha North APC Chairman, Sir Mathew Chinye, described the defection as a significant boost for the party. He praised Dr. Okobah’s wealth of experience and noted that his presence in the APC would play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future. He further emphasized that the APC’s political prospects in the region were bright and encouraged all progressives to unite in working toward victory in 2027.
In his remarks, Ward 2 APC Chairman, Mr. Frank Asimoye, congratulated Dr. Okobah on his bold and well-calculated decision to join the APC. He expressed confidence that Dr. Okobah’s membership, along with that of his numerous supporters, would greatly strengthen the party’s presence in Delta North ahead of future political engagements.
Ogbueshi Sualeze Eluaka, the APC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate for Oshimili South, hailed Dr. Okobah as a political heavyweight and a skilled grassroots mobilizer. He underscored the significance of Okobah’s experience and political influence, stressing that the wave of defections into the APC was a testament to the party’s growing strength. He urged all APC supporters to remain steadfast and committed to ensuring the party’s success.
The event climaxed with a ceremonial registration, where Dr. Chris Okobah, Mr. Justus Elue, Mr. Sunny Okwuzu, and other new members were officially presented with APC membership cards by Sir Mathew Chinye and Mr. Frank Asimoye. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as party members from across Delta North celebrated the momentous occasion, exchanging pleasantries and reaffirming their commitment to the APC’s vision.
