Senator Ned Nwoko Rejects Governor Oborevwori’s Offer, Calls for People-Centered Governance

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has made a bold statement by rejecting an offer from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which included a Land Cruiser vehicle and a monthly sum of N10 million.

Speaking in Idumuje-Ugboko on Saturday, Nwoko expressed his dissatisfaction with the offer, emphasizing that it does not directly benefit his constituents. Recently defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he reiterated that his primary goal as a senator is to improve the lives of his people rather than indulge in personal gain.

“I am dissatisfied with the offer. I won’t accept the Land Cruiser and N10 million monthly from the governor. The funds should be used for the people rather than for self-interest. My primary goal as a senator is to improve the lives of my constituents,” Nwoko stated.

He further alleged that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State is focused on retaining power rather than fostering true political competition. According to him, the PDP’s 25-year dominance has deprived the state of meaningful development and progress. He boldly predicted that the party’s reign in Delta State would come to an end in the 2027 general elections.

Expressing excitement about joining the APC, Nwoko criticized the PDP for allegedly holding Delta State “hostage” for a quarter of a century. He claimed that the state has stagnated under PDP’s leadership, preventing the necessary development needed for economic growth.

As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation and the Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, Nwoko emphasized that Delta North deserves better governance. He compared the political system in Nigeria to that of the United States, where power alternates between parties to ensure progress. Vowing to end what he described as “political slavery” in Delta State, he said APC offers an alternative platform for real change.

Nwoko also advocated for the creation of Anioma State, arguing that it would free Delta North from the constraints of PDP governance and bring greater autonomy and opportunities to the region. He criticized the state government’s reluctance to support the idea, accusing PDP leaders of brainwashing the people and preventing open discussions on the matter.

Despite the challenges, Nwoko expressed confidence that with the backing of APC leaders at both the state and federal levels, Anioma State would eventually be realized, ensuring greater freedom and development for the people of Delta North.
