SENATE: YUGUDA TO RE-CONTEST IN 2019
Some groups and individuals have intensified calls on a former governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda, to re-contest the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat on the platform Green Party of Nigeria (GPN). One of the groups, Dangarba Volunteer Group, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the GPN state secretariat to express their support for the former governor so that he could heed the calls by groups and individuals to contest the Senate seat. Yuguda had contested the Bauchi South Senatorial seat in 2015 after his eight-year tenure as the Bauchi State governor. He, however, lost to Senator Ali Wakili of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) . Speaking on the visit, the leader of the group, Alhaji Dangarba Magaji, said they came to rally more support for the former governor to re-contest the seat because they were hopeful that he would deliver more dividends of democracy to the people. According to him, members of the group have embarked on a massive campaign to canvass support for the governor in all nooks and crannies of the seven local government areas of Bauchi South Senatorial District. In his welcome address, the Bauchi state chairman of the party, Alhaji Sani Mohammed Bura, commended the group for its support for the former governor and the call on him to serve his people. Bura assured them that members of the party would work towards convincing Yuguda to contest the Bauchi South senatorial seat. Highlight of the visit was the donation of a car by a member of the group to canvass support for the former governor.
