SENATE TELLS BAKARE PARTY HAS NOT FAILED NIGERIANS
Senate spokesman, Abdullahi, said the party has done its best to transform the country.
The Nigerian Senate has dismissed the criticism of Pastor Tunde Bakarethat the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has failed Nigerians, saying the administration has done its best.
In a public reprimand of the president and the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in aState of the Nation address on Sunday, January 14, 2018, the popular televangelist remarked that the president had failed to deliver on key electoral campaign promises, especially security.
Spokesman of the Senate, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, brushed off the criticism while speaking on Channels TV, saying that Bakare’s comments were just his opinion.
He said, “Pastor Tunde Bakare is totally entitled to his opinion and he has voiced his opinion but as far as I am concerned, APC has not failed.
“The number of years we have spent, looking at the problems we met on the ground, I think we are doing very well in trying to get Nigeria back on track.
“We are not saying that we couldn’t have done more but then, what we have done so far is within the context of the situation we have found ourselves and we have done very well.”
Bakare’s presidential ambition
Pastor Bakare revealed to his congregation on January 1 that God wants him to run for president despite his plan to quit politics for good. However, he didn’t specify if he’ll be running against President Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.
Pastor Bakare was notably picked as the running mate of President Buhari when he contested on the platform of the defunctCongress for Progressive Change (CPC)during the 2011 presidential election which he lost to former president, Goodluck Jonathan.
