Security threat: IGP to intervene in kogi Lokoja express way

By Ihegazie Hope Chidinma

Senate on Wednesday called on the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Idris to intervene in the killing and kidnapping that is going on along lokoja express way in Kogi State.

Senator representing Kogi West, Melaye Dino made this call in a motion during the senate plenary at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Melaye explained that the deteriorating security situation of Nigeria is increasing everyday especially in some states like kogi state where killing and kidnapping has become a regular issue.

He stated that “the attack happened along lokoja express way for three consecutive times but the last one which took place last month took the life of 8people and 18 were kidnapped.

“if we don’t stand up and do something about this situation, it will do us”.

He therefore called on the Commissioner of Police to intensify the security measures and secure the lives of innocent Nigerians.

Meanwhile the Senate president while commenting on this issue explained that this motion needs a resolution, adding that the Committee on Communication should take it up.

He stated that “we need to do something different, we should be more radical in giving security agencies more hands to regulate this issue”.
