Rivers State House of Assembly Friday September 20 2024 held its regular plenary at the Hallowed Chambers, Admin Block, Government House, Port Harcourt, which was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo.

Amongst items on the order paper for business of the day were debate on the Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill 2024, presented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Orubienimigha Timothy, and the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency Bill 2024, presented by the Leader of the House, Hon Sokari Goodboy Sokari, which was followed by second and third readings on the floor of the Assembly before both bills were passed into law.

In his remark, the Speaker, Victor Okoh Jumbo commended the sponsors, citing the Transport Bill’s potential to tackle “one chance” menace bedeviling the state through commercial vehicle profiling, enhancing security, revenue, and service delivery.

The Bonny State Representative further described the Emergency Management Bill as timely, domesticating the National Emergency Management Agency’s efforts to address natural disasters, fires, accidents, and emergencies in the state.

Recall that public hearings had been held for both bills where stakeholders and the public made relevant inputs leading to the outcome of what was presented in Friday’s plenary.

Thereafter the House adjourned sitting to Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
