Osun Assembly receives proposed amendment of 1999 Constitution
The Osun State House of Assembly has received the proposed amendment to alter Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution from the National Assembly for considerations.
During the plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Adegboye Akintunde, he announced the receipt of the document from the National Assembly and read out the sections of the 1999 Constitution meant for amendment.
The Deputy Speaker implored his colleagues to go through the document and digest the areas meant for amendment for proper understanding that would facilitate meaningful input.
Adegboye said the input of members of the state House of Assembly was very paramount and that posterity would judge their actions. He assured that the legislator in the state would do thorough job on the assignment.
He explained that the concern of the legislators in Osun was to represent the interest of their constituents very well by making laws that would have direct impact on the lives of the citizenry.
The Majority Leader of the House, Honourable Timothy Owoeye moved a motion that the lawmakers should be allowed to study the document pending its consideration at a future date while the motion which was seconded by Honourable Wasiu Adebayo was granted as moved.
The Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Honourable Olatunbosun Oyintiloye told journalists that the Assembly would take necessary steps in ensuring that the people have contributions in the constitutional amendment exercise.
