NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO VETO BUHARI ON NABRO BILL – GOLU
The National Assembly is set to veto President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to sign the National Assembly Budget and Research Office (NABRO) Bill into law more than 30 days after receiving the document, a member of the House of Reps has said.
The bill, which has been in the National Assembly for over a decade, was passed by both chambers about three months ago and a clean copy was transmitted to Buhari to assent it into law.
However, the chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, Timothy Golu (PDP, Plateau) told Daily Trust in Abuja yesterday that Buhari neither signed it into law nor communicated any reason to the National Assembly.
Thus, he said, members of the both chambers have commenced the process of overriding the president on the bill to pass it into law.
“This is a very important bill that will sanitize the budgetary system. In fact, we’ll make sure that we veto the president before we commence proper work on the 2018 budget. That’s our position and we will not do anything until the NABRO bill is signed into law,” he said.
