House of Representatives Appoints New Deputy Chief Whip
Abuja, FCT | Tuesday, February 11, 2025 – The House of Representatives has appointed Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka (APC, Ogun) as the new Deputy Chief Whip of the Green Chamber.
The announcement was made by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, during Tuesday’s plenary session, following consultations with the majority party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Rep. Isiaka’s appointment comes after the passing of the former Deputy Chief Whip, Rep. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga (APC, Ogun), in January 2025.
“Following extensive consultations with the APC Caucus and other stakeholders from the South West, the leadership of the House has received and accepted the recommendation of Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka to serve as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives,” Speaker Abbas announced.
Rep. Isiaka, who represents Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency of Ogun State, previously served as the Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development. Since his election in 2015, he has held several key legislative positions, including Chairman of the Committee on Ecological Funds, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Governmental Affairs, and leadership roles in multiple Ad Hoc Committees.
Paying tribute to the late Rep. Onanuga, Speaker Abbas stated:
“Let us take a moment to honor the remarkable contributions of Hon. Onanuga to this House and our nation. May her soul rest in peace. We congratulate Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka on this well-deserved elevation and trust that he will bring the same dedication and commitment to his new role as he has consistently demonstrated in his service to this House and his constituents.”

With extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, Rt. Hon. Isiaka is expected to play a crucial role in the House Leadership, ensuring legislative discipline and order in parliamentary proceedings.
