GOVERNOR OBASEKI PRESENTS 2018 BUDGET

Mr Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, today presented the year 2018 Appropriation Bill and Budget of 146 billion tagged “the Budget of Growth” to the Edo State House of Assembly.

In his words, “we have a budget of N146, 659, 830, 444, which is a 15% increase over the year 2017 budget. The 2018 budget contains N66 for recurrent and N79.8 as capital expenditure.”

Analyzing the budget estimates, Obaseki said a larger part of 2018 budget will be devoted to physical and social infrastructure in the state increase the standard of living of the Edo people. Stating that 51. 7b has been earmarked for infrastructure. “We will take advantage of the dry season and construct several bad roads in the State to increase socioeconomic activities.”

Obaseki said that 9.7b will be spent on economic growth to boost employment generation across the state. This will enhance the capacity of these individuals for direct employment and entrepreneurship in the state,” he stated.

6.3b and 3.3b have been set aside for education and health sectors respectively. He assured that in the health sector, attention will be given to primary health care service delivery as well as health insurance in the state.

7.1b has been set aside for direct intervention in the institutional, law and order reforms which will cover investments in Judiciary, governance and security institutions.

The speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Adjoto Kabiru assured that the budget will be given urgent consideration by the House.

The bill scaled first reading today.
