Governance Boost for Bayelsa as Assembly Approves BYSIEC Nominees, Additional Special Advisers, and New Chart of Accounts.

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has taken significant steps to enhance governance and transparency. On 10th, September,2024. The House approved two nominees, Hon. Emmanuel Charles and Barr. Perediyegha Ajoko, for the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC), presented by Governor Senator Douye Diri.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere welcomed the nominees and explained the constitutional requirement for the House to screen and confirm them. The Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou Edwin, then moved a motion for the nominees to take a bow and leave the floor, seconded by Hon. Bernard Sunday Kenebai.

The House also approved two requests from the Governor:

1. The appointment of 14 additional Special Advisers to enhance effective governance.

2. The adoption of a new Chart of Accounts to improve financial transparency and tracking of revenue and expenditure.

Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou Edwin emphasized the importance of the new Chart of Accounts in advancing the prosperity administration’s agenda in line with international public sector accounting standards.

Furthermore, the House deliberated on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF-FSP) Document. The Leader highlighted its significance in pre-planning expenditure for existing services and future policy changes.

Hon. Barr. Tare Porri commended the Governor for adhering to the state’s extant law and endorsed the approval of the MTEF-FSP Document while awaiting the 2025 budget.

In conclusion, the Bayelsa state Assembly’s approvals mark a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance governance, transparency, and accountability.
