senator representing Anambra central, Ekwunife uche Lilian has urged the national assembly to offer remedial measure to mitigate the damages caused by erosion in some areas in anambra state.
she stated this on 18th July 2019 at the national assembly on her motion which was seconded by senator representing anambra south, uba ifeanyi Patrick and senator representing adamawa south, yaroe binos dauda.
ekwunife explained that the devastating storm took place during the weekend at obosi, nkpor oraukwu communities in idemili local government area of anambra state.
she disclosed that the storm destroyed a lot of homes and rendered the residents of that area homeless, adding that shops, markets and roads were not spared as a result of this devastating incident.
“unless immediate steps are taken to control the widening erosion gullies, the residents of these communities will continue to be exposed to greater risk of loss of life and property”.
“we need federal government intervention and any other agency on this”.
she therefore solicited for help from the national assembly urging them to intervene by providing relief materials and other support to the affected area.
