In pursuance of the United Nations Educatiion for all, the Ebonyi State House Committee on Educatiion has paid a familiarization visit to the National Examination Council (NECO) in Ebonyi State to ascertain the level of their preparation for the upcoming examinations.

Speaking, the Chairman of the Committee Hon Barr Alloysius Nwodo representing Ebonyi North West State Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Commended the establishment for not receiving any Complaint against them , adding that the decision of the state government to have a tripartite arrangement to improve the educational standard in the state should be welcomed by all the parties .

He maintained that the State Government under the leadership of Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has positioned educational development as the number one priority for his administration and therefore it behoves on all partners in the sector to rise up to the challenges therein.

Hon Nwodo implored the council to expedite actions in coping up with the rate at which the state government want it’s educatiional sector to grow.

He however Commended the State Coordinator of National Examination Council for the dear achieved as Ebonyi State has progressively moved upwards in the results of the Senior Secondary Schools in the South East as no school in the state was blacklisted by the Council in the year.

Another member of the Committee, Hon Friday Ogbuewu Representing Ezza South Constituency said the visit of the Committee was to fraternize with the council and to ascertain the areas of needed assistance.

He Commended the Council for the achievements recorded since 1999 of thier establishment and prayed for more commitment from the council.

Hon Stephen Orji Igwe, the member representing Edda East said the commitment of the staff of the council worth commendation and added that the House of Assembly will go extra mile in making sure that the educational Programmes of the state government is achieved.

Responding, State Coordinator of the National Examination Council in Ebonyi State Mr Nyam Edokor highlighted the need for the establishment of the Council to include responsiveness to Nigerian needs and demands as well as to cope with the annual increased numbers of Secondary School Candidates to take the senior secondary school examinations.

He enumerated some of the opportunities created for Ebonyi Students to compete favourably with thier counterparts in other states adding that the insinuation going around that NECO Certificate is not acceptable in other countries is false adding that NECO has the same acceptance with other examinations bodies.

Mr Edokor then appealed thereafter to the Committee to help the council see to the completion of the office accomodation, given to them by the past administration and to provide them with Utility Vehicles among other pressing needs they have.

In a vote of thanks, Mrs Chinyere Mpanugo who is the Deputy Director and Supervisory Head in the Examination Department Commended the State Goverrnor Rr Hon Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for the payment of the Junior Secondary School accreditation fees in Ebonyi State and thanked the Committee for the timely visit.
