Condemnations are now trailing the gruesome murder of an indigene of Nyokuru community in Khana Local Government area of Rivers State by suspected Fulani Herdsmen on Thursday September 26, 2024.
Paramount Ruler of the community, Chief Jackson Abiikor referred to the scenario as pathetic and called on the government to take drastic measures to forestall further occurrence and combat its escalation.
Giving his narration, Community Development Committee Chairman of the community, Surv. Dr. Needam Yiinubari Barisua said there has been several complaints about the harrassment of their women by these suspected herders until Thursday September 26 2024 when they killed an indigene of the community by name Mr. Lebatambari John after peacefully protesting the destruction of his crops by their cows. He said the victim was killed leaving behind a young wife and five children and called on the government to come to the aid of the people as they can no longer access their farmlands due to fear of further attacks.
Spokesman of the Forum of State Chairmen, National Youth Council of Nigeria Comr. Nwisabari Bani Samuel described the situation as nauseating with a further appeal to the youths to remain calm while the security agencies and governments at all levels work out modalities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
President of Ogoni Youth Federation, Engr. (Dr.) Legborsi Yamaabana described the incidence as horrendous and called on the police and other security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime for prosecution to serve as deterrent to others.
Meanwhile, the traditional leadership of NyoKhana Kingdom and Kasimene of ancient Bangha Kingdom, King Dr. Suanu Baridam called for restrain and calm amongst the youths of the area.
King Baridam in a statement personally signed by him called on the Nigerian security heads to take stringent measures to restore law and order in the area.
The young King as fundly christened by his subjects also called on the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to make the security of the Nyokhana people a top priority.
