-calls for close door session to determine next line of action
-refers IG action as a National Disgrace
– it explains lack of capacity to serve in that office.
The Nigeria Inspector General of Police have shun the invitation of the Nigeria Senate again. This is the third time the Inspector General of Police will disregard the invitation of the Nigeria Parliament in just one month. The Inspector General was invited to appear before the plenary to explain his stake on Senator Dino Melaye,s arrest and the killings across the country.
The leader of Senate reacting to the Inspector General’s action condemned the act saying `Public officers that cant do what is in the interest of the public should not continue to occupy the office. He calls for a way forward especially in a situation where there is a continuous disregard for the institution of the senate, then there should be a drastic step.
Senator Emmanuel Bwacha of Taraba said he was the chairman of police and internal affairs in the 5th assembly. The action is sad, irresistible, condemnable and calls for immediate action. Senator Misau Isa made reference to the time he raised alarm about the incompetent leadership of the police. As a Senator Senator who was raised in a police family and also in police for ten years, the action is strange. The Nigeria Senate by constitution is higher than the office of the Inspector General of police. The Inspector General or Police has disgrace the office of the President, the Nigeria Parliament and the nation at large. There is no office holder/Appointee that is bigger than the parliament institution worldwide. The constitution that empowers police to arrest people is the same constitution that gave the parliament the right to invite the inspector general of police to plenary.
The Senate went into a close door session to decide the fate of the inspector general of Police.
