APC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY: NORTHERN GOVERNORS PRESENTS FIVE CANDIDATES

With oppositions following the announcement of the APC Chairman Adamu Abdullahi, declaring Ahmed Lawan as the party’s consensus candidate yesterday, members of the National Working Committee and the Northern APC Governors, after much deliberation as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari has reduced the number of aspirants for today’s presidential primaries to five.

The five aspirants are: Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state; Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state; and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Governor Simon Lalong (Plateau), disclosed that the decision was taken in the early hours of today.

Following this recent development, other aspirants have been thrown off the race including , Senate President Ahmad Lawan, who the National Chairman, Senator Adamu Abdullahi, yesterday announced as the party’s consensus candidate.

The others cut off include: Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, and Chief Emeka Nwajiuba.

Although they’ve been thrown off the race, Governor Lalong added that aspirants among the initial 23, who are displeased with the decision could still contest the primaries today.
