ALLEGED FRAUD:Senate Committee gives Nigeria Ports Authority 48hours to appear before it

The Senate Committee on Public Account led by its Chairman, Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada has ordered the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority NPA to appear before it within 48 hours to throw more light on alleged misappropriation of its revenue as raised in a query issued by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation.
The committee warned NPA to comply with its directives or face necessary sanctions.
The Chairman of the committee on Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada Representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District condemned the refusal of Nigeria Ports Authority to honour the invitation of the committee to answer the query issued by the Office of Auditor General of the Federation in respect of the revenue accrued by the agency.
“NPA supposed to appear before this committee so that we look at the query raised by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation”Committee Chairman said.
Wadada said NPA MD sent a General Manager to appear before the committee which was not acceptable by the committee.”Even the General Manager was absent at the committee sitting but later shown up, saying that he went for medication” Wadada added.
Wadada instisted that Nigeria Port Authority must appear before the committee to answer the query issued by the Auditor -General of the federation,as NPA could not account for about Sixty Eight Million Dollar.
The Chairman assured that the committee will communicate to the management of NPA within 24hours and if they failed to appear before the Senate committee, the Senate will use necessary legal instruments against the NPA management ,”as no institutions is bigger than National Assembly and no one is above law”Wadada warned.
