Hon. Victor Obuzor of Ahoada-West/Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Federal Constituency of Rivers State in Nigeria’s lower bicameral Chamber has birthed fresh fish farmers through the sponsorship of training his constituents in fish farming in partnership with the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen at the sideline of the event, Hon. Obuzor stated that the current economic realities of the country prompted his actions with a target of creating economic self sufficiency and reliance. He narrated his plans to carry out other projects in the constituency cutting across the health, education, infrastructural sectors amongst others and assured that despite the challenge of paucity of funds, the programmes have been designed to impact on a good number of his constituents while appealing for their support and cooperation.

Keynote Speaker and Trainer, Dr. Samuel Momoh who is the National President of the Catfish and Allied Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria CAFFAN saluted the magnanimity of Dr. Obuzor describing the program as laudable. Dr. Momoh admonished the beneficiaries to be dedicated and committed to implementing the knowledge gained from the training with a promise to do a follow up mentorship on those desirous to create more job opportunities in the society. Furthermore, he stated that Rivers State and the Niger Delta have the capacity to provide surplus fish for consumption and export for Nigeria while further calling on the governments of the Niger Delta states to harness the enormous opportunities lying fallow in the blue economy. He appealed to Government at all levels to tackle insecurity headlong which he described as the major challenge facing every Nigerian farmer currently.

In appreciation, Ojenike Izuchukwu Prince and Chinedu Doris on behalf of other beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude while describing Hon. Victor Obuzor as a man with a large heart and called on other Representatives to emulate his steps to make the society more productive to reduce crime to its barest minimum.

The training was climaxed with the issuance of certificates, financial grants, startup packages including medications, fish feeds, fingerlings amongst others.
