The house of representative has resolved to investigate non governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in the country to Know their total numbers, sources of their fund and the deployment of their funds.
This was sequel to a motion on “Urgent public Importance on the need for special intervention in the protracted security situation in Nigeria.
Nigeria in times has witnessed unprecedented level of insecurity, which has made the issue of National Security discuss on the front burners.
Hon.mohammed monguno who sponsored the motion during plenary Tuesday, believes that there is need for new strategies and expedited actions to reduce insecurity and also there is need for special security funding to enable the country’s security agencies to tackle the lingering insurgency in North East particularly as the Boko haram tactics are been metamorphose.
In there contribution, Hon. Ahmadu jaha (APC,Borno) and Hon.ifeanyi momah (Anambra) contributed to the motion.
In his words, Hon. Jaha said, “out of ten (10) locals government in my area only two have not been taken by Boko haram”.
while Hon. ifeanyi said “we as legislature should assist the security agencies in whatever way to tackle the insurgency, having in mind that Nigerians in affected arrears are dying everyday”.
Reacting to the debate,
Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker House of Representatives, said the motion raised by Hon. Monguno was the outcome of the meeting held earlier this week with the service chiefs to tackle and bring an end to the issue that has become a monster bedeviling the nation, which lasted for 5hours.
The Speaker further said, they have been an allegation that some of the NGOs are funding the insurgency.
In there resolution, the house in a unanimous voice vote adopted the motion and referred it to the house committee on security comprising, committee on Navy, Army, Air force , Defense and police for further legislative action.
