Senate Committee on ICT and cyber crime held public orientation with stakeholders enlightenement in Abuja on Tuesday to emphasised on the need to beef-up the strategy to combat the cyber crime from in and outside the country.
In the key note presented by the Honorable Minister of Communication Dr. Adebayo Shittu he said “transnational criminal network become complex and sophisticated. Crypto – Currencies Are Being Used To Pay For Illicit Goods And To Fund Terrorism”.
Shittu maintained that, “the threat to Nigeria by cyber Terrorism remain high. The use by ISIS, the terrorist group, of cyber tools to build and influence it’s support base has been a major challenge globally” .
Main while, Hon Minister assured that, “the ICT road map 2017 – 2020 and cyber Acts 2015, commit Nigeria to an ambitious, proactive, strategy to ensure the deployment, utilization of ICTs and safe and secure Cyberspace”.
Accordingly, Shittu called on ECOWAS sub – region and the AU to partner in combating Cross – border Cyber crime, to foster cyber diplomacy within West Africa.
Moreso, in the welcome address by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Chairman Senate Committee on ICT and cyber crime acknowledge the fact that if Cyberspace is not proper utilize it is capable of destroy the nation economy, defense and even polities.
He further comments that “While we traveled to South Korea the country used almost 80%of their Cyberspace to develop their global economy and also explore it for their defense, but here in Nigeria reverse is the case”.
He urged Nigerians instead of inputting their energy and talent for destroy political office holders they should use the advantage to build the nation.

In his keynote address he said “Cybersecurity is all about National defense not only about personal computers, or individual crime but organize crime that will destabilize the Nation” therefore, it is important for Nigeria State to put maximum attention to their cyberspace ”
The vice chairman Senate Committee on ICT and cyber crime Senator Foster Ogola appreciate every participants assured that there is a needs to making sure that every bills related to Cybersecurity in the National Assembly to pass and send to Mr President for assent for policy continuation.
Maintain that developed countries have no other secret other than continuity, policy is expected to build up ward not backwards, then we will have a steady and progressive policy that yield positive results.
