Speaking at the plenary on Wednesday, Hon Danbara (Kano) said that there is an intention by the press to drag the Institution ( National Assembly) to the mud. He also said that there is an aligation by the nation’s newspaper accusing the house of collecting bribe of 30,000 $ by each member of the house to change the electoral sequence.
Hon T.J who also spoke on the point of order said that there is always an attempt to paint the parliament in a bad image. he added that there is no truth behind the allegations.
Hon Hassan Saleh (Benue) said that the continous attack by the press has to stop. He called the action by the press as irresponsible journalism. He advised that due investigation should be carried out by the committee on ethics and privilege.
Hon Teseh Belah (Benue) said that he is embarrassed on the kind of information the press gives to the public as he calls it a saga. He further expressed that the forth estate of the realm, instead of venturing into investigative journalism, it rather settle for mare gossip. The media instead of going into investigative journalism, they rather take into gossip.
Also speaking on the matter, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila said that a re- acreditation should be done on journalist that are allowed to report in National Assembly .
The speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, refered the matter to the committee on ethics and privileges.
