SENATE MOVES TO HOLD 2-DAY SECURITY SUMMIT NEXT WEEK

The Senate is to suspend plenary on Wednesday and Thursday next week for the purpose of holding a national summit on rising insecurity across Nigeria.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu moved the motion to hold the submit.
The resolution followed a fresh motion raised on attacks in Lau town and other communities within Taraba state by Senator Shuaibu Lau (PDP/Taraba North).
The Senate condemned the latest attacks while calling for more deployment of troops by President Muhammadu Buhari to the affected areas and states.
Senators also called for security services to increase the surveillance of border communities in addition to harvesting massive intelligence to nip future attacks.
During debate on the invasion, Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC/Zamfara Central) had also informed the Senate of the kidnapping of some villagers in Zamfara state yesterday. He called for urgent intervention to free them from their abductors. He also said some invaders have taken over parts of Zamfara state without any intervention by security agencies.
