NIGER APC THREATENS LAWMAKERS, SACKS MAJORITY LEADER
The Niger State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has removed the
State House of Assembly majority leader Hon. Ibrahim Dandodo who’s representing Rijau constituency to be replaced with the member representing Kontagora 1, Hon. Nura Garba.
Investigation revealed that the party, in a letter to the assembly, requested for the sacking of the majority leader who is to be replaced with the lawmaker from the same local government of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
Consequently, the party leadership, according to sources, had earlier held a meeting with the party lawmakers in the Assembly and passed vote of no confidence on the sacked member; hence the replacement was in the interest of the party.
It was reliably gathered that some of the lawmakers resisted, insisting that only the house members have the power to elect the leadership of the assembly; hence they refused the removal, despite threat from the party to denied them tickets for 2019 if they refuse to act accordingly – which suggests show down between the said legislators and the party in the state.
Reports further revealed that the party had also threatened the seat of the speaker and deputy, if they refused to honour the decision of the party to that effect and resisted on the decision of the party in the state.
According to the constitution and the State House of Assembly, standing order page 6, the Speaker and his Deputy election is the responsibility of the house members and not the party while the rules of the house gives the power to the same members to select their leaders considering the party positions of the house.
When contacted on phone by our reporter, the State Secretary of All Progressive Congress APC, Barr. Mohammed Liman said that he had traveled to Bida and will only respond to reporter when he is in office after returning from the trip which he couldn’t before going to the press.
