Sen. (Amb.) Ahmed Abdulhamid Mallam-Madori Champions the Creation of Hadejia State: A Vision for Agrarian Prosperity and Peace

Senator (Amb.) Ahmed Abdulhamid Mallam-Madori, representing Jigawa Northeast, has emerged as a key advocate for the creation of Hadejia State, a long-held aspiration of the people in his senatorial district. In a recent interview, he outlined the rationale behind his strong support for the bill, emphasizing the region’s agricultural potential, peaceful disposition, and economic viability as an independent state.

The movement for Hadejia State, with Hadejia as its proposed capital, dates back to Nigeria’s military era. However, Senator Mallam-Madori believes the present democratic system offers a timely and viable opportunity to actualize this vision. “We believe this is the right time to act,” he asserted, highlighting the ongoing constitutional amendment process as a crucial opening to bring the dream to fruition.

Hadejia’s Agricultural Strength and Economic Viability

The proposed Hadejia State, to be carved out of Jigawa State, stands as an agricultural powerhouse. Renowned for its significant contributions to Nigeria’s food security, the region is home to the River Valley Project, a vast agricultural hub producing rice, wheat, and other essential crops. “We lead the country in wheat production,” the senator proudly stated, adding that the area also excels in palm produce and other key agricultural sectors. With its ability to generate substantial revenue, the region is well-positioned to sustain itself as a state.

Beyond its agricultural wealth, Hadejia is one of the most peaceful and productive regions in Nigeria, a factor the senator believes will contribute to its successful transition into statehood. “Jigawa State is the most peaceful state in Nigeria, and the Hadejia area is no exception,” he noted, expressing confidence that the creation of Hadejia State would drive development and improve the quality of life for its residents.

Commitment to Accountability and Good Governance

Addressing concerns about governance, Senator Mallam-Madori assured that the proposed state would uphold high standards of accountability. “No state can be created without accountability,” he affirmed, emphasizing the commitment to transparency and effective leadership.

Support for Senate Leadership

Senator Mallam-Madori also praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio, commending his leadership skills and dedication to national progress. “The Senate President has the capacity to deliver, and he is doing exceptionally well,” he remarked. “I am among the senators supporting him, and I will continue to do so. The entire leadership is working cohesively, ensuring inclusivity in governance.”

Reflecting on his extensive political career, the senator expressed confidence in his ability to assess leadership. “I have been in politics for a long time. I was in the House of Representatives 33 years ago. I served as Minister of Power under President Obasanjo and spent eight years as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Turkey under President Goodluck Jonathan. These experiences have given me the insight to evaluate leaders, and I can say with certainty that Akpabio is doing an excellent job.”

Call for Patience Amid Economic Challenges

In response to concerns about Nigeria’s economic hardships, Senator Mallam-Madori urged citizens to remain patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “This government is still in its early stages, just two years in. If Nigerians could be patient with past administrations for eight years, despite challenges, I believe they should extend the same patience to this government,” he stated.

He emphasized the president’s commitment to addressing the nation’s economic difficulties. “The president is determined to restore stability to our economy. Less than two years is too short a period to judge his performance. We need to give him the support and time required to implement his vision. I strongly believe that with patience and cooperation, we will see positive results.”

A Call to Action

As the campaign for Hadejia State gains momentum, Senator Mallam-Madori called on his constituents and stakeholders to remain steadfast in their support. “This is the time to work hard and achieve our objective,” he urged, expressing gratitude to President Tinubu, the National Assembly, and all supporters for their commitment to the cause.

With his vision rooted in agricultural prosperity and peace, Senator Mallam-Madori remains confident that Hadejia State’s creation will usher in a new era of economic growth and sustainable development for the region.
