Niger Tanker Explosion: House of Representatives Commiserates with Victims’ Families
Abuja, FCT | Sunday, January 19, 2025 – The House of Representatives expresses deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion that occurred at Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), the horrific incident, involving a petrol-laden truck on the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Saturday, claimed over 86 lives and left 55 others injured. The victims were laid to rest in a mass burial, leaving families and communities devastated by the loss.
The House of Representatives extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the affected communities.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, described the tragedy as deeply unfortunate and called for a thorough investigation by relevant authorities to prevent future occurrences. He also stressed the importance of motorists exercising greater caution and adhering to road safety measures.
This heartbreaking event highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols in the transportation of hazardous materials and stricter enforcement of road safety regulations across the nation. It serves as a solemn reminder of the collective responsibility—legislative and otherwise—to safeguard lives on Nigerian roads.
