"Senator Ned Nwoko Plans Defection to APC to Pursue Anioma State Creation"
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, is reportedly planning to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to advance the longstanding quest for the creation of Anioma State, sources have revealed.
The Guardian learned that Nwoko recently convened a consultative meeting with prominent PDP members and other stakeholders from opposition parties within his constituency. The meeting, held at his country home in Idumuji-Kpoko, Aniocha North, was to inform them of his intention to join the ruling party, a move allegedly linked to conditions set by the presidency for the creation of Anioma State.
Victor Sorokwu, the convener and leader of Ugo-Anioma, confirmed the development, stating that Nwoko sought support from attendees to switch to the APC. The proposal reportedly received unanimous approval from those present.
While some sources suggest Nwoko’s defection is tied to his 2027 Delta State governorship ambition, Sorokwu emphasized that the move is primarily to actualize the creation of Anioma State.
If Nwoko completes his defection, all three Delta State Senators in the National Assembly will belong to the APC, further weakening the PDP’s dominance in Delta State, which has been a stronghold since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
This follows the recent defection of Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former governor James Ibori and representative of the Ethiope Federal Constituency, from the PDP to the APC.
