The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a directive to arrest and detain Omoyele Sowore, a 2023 presidential candidate and founder of Sahara Reporters, due to his involvement in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria.
A memo signed by DSS official Adeola D. Ali, under the directive of the newly appointed Director General of the DSS, Adeola Ajayi, cites Sowore’s participation in the 10-day protests, which called for widespread reforms and an end to bad governance. The memo instructs airport security to detain Sowore and confiscate his baggage upon arrival in Nigeria. This move is part of an ongoing crackdown on activists, journalists, and opposition voices in Nigeria, with Sowore being a target of state repression due to his continued exposure of corruption and demand for accountability from the government.
