NANS Urges Tinubu to Sack Underperforming Ministers, Increase Student Loan

By Otitologbon Oluwabusayo

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack all non-performing ministers in his cabinet, citing their failure to deliver on their mandates. The student body also appealed to the Federal Government to increase the student loan upkeep from N20,000 to N40,000 to address rising educational costs.

NANS Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, addressed newsmen on Monday in Abuja, stating that Nigerians, especially students, have been severely affected by the astronomical increase in fuel prices. He acknowledged the efforts of President Tinubu’s administration in implementing reforms but urged the government to consider the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

Babatunde called for the dismissal of non-performing ministers, citing their passivity and failure to communicate their plans or progress to the Nigerian people. He also urged the government to prioritize the reduction of excessive spending, stating that those in power must lead by example.

The student body expressed strong opposition to protest actions against the fuel price hike but announced the composition of a 10-man committee to engage the Federal Government and key stakeholders on the need to reduce the price of fuel.

NANS has presented a clear set of demands to the Federal Government, including the sacking of underperforming ministers and an increase in student loan upkeep. With the student body willing to engage in negotiations, the government must consider the plight of ordinary Nigerians and take concrete steps to address their concerns. Failure to do so may lead to protests, which NANS has vowed to undertake as a last resort.
