The inspector general of police says the Nigeria police force has apprehended 1151 suspects in two months and Acquire, deploy electro-muscular disruption technology-based stun guns
The Police high command has arrested high profile suspects nationwide between August and September.
Inspector General of Police, IG, Abubakar Adamu, who stated this today during the Monthly IG conference in Abuja, attributed the feat on the stronger relationships between the security outfit and the citizens.
Breaking down the various crimes allegedly committed by the suspects, the police boss said 470 armed robbers, 216 kidnap suspects, 335 suspected cultists, and 130 murder suspects.
He furthermore stated that 228 firearms of various descriptions and caliber were recovered in various police operations across the country within the same period.
He also said 231 kidnapped victims have been safety rescued and reunited with their families, while 78 stolen vehicles were also recovered from the criminal elements.
In a bit to address public concerns on misuse of of firearms by the police, Adamu said the Force had acquired and deployed electro-muscular disruption technology-based weaponry, commonly known as Taser or stun Gun.
The police boss added that special trainings are being organised for officers on special operations.
“We are challenged by these achievements to sustain our tempo. This calls for constant reevaluate of the dynamics of crime and the realignment of our strategies accordingly”, IG said.
He said although there are still some security challenges which, he said, currently require the police professional attention, Adamu encouraged all officers and men of Force renew their vigour in the fight against crimes in the country.
