Today, both chambers of the National Assembly laid the Conference Committee Report of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) Bill.
This is following the intervention of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, who on Thursday night called a meeting between Speaker Yakubu Dogara; the Chairman of the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes in the Senate, Senator Chukwuka Utazi; and the House Committee Chairman on Financial Crimes, Hon. Kayode Oladele.
On Sunday night, the Senate President, through his personal Twitter handle, @BukolaSaraki, had promised that the Report will be laid today, saying that he was confident that the Bill would be passed this week.
Speaking on the laying of the Report, presiding officer, Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said: “It is important that we do as much as possible to consider this report by tomorrow so that Nigeria will be sure to get the ban from the EGMONT Group lifted.”
